I want to welcome everyone to Midway Elementary School and to our school’s website. This is my fifth year at MES as your Principal. I previously served as an Assistant Principal at Cherokee Middle School for three years and as an Assistant Principal at North Middle School for five years in Loudon County. I taught seventh grade social studies at North Middle School in Loudon County prior to becoming an Assistant Principal. Additionally, I have coached basketball at the middle school level, high school level, and AAU. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography from the University of Tennessee, a Masters of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee Tech, and an Education Specialists Degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech.
I am married to Ruth Thompson, a Freshman English teacher at Roane County High School. She has been with the Roane County School System as a teacher for 25 years. We have two children: Tyler is 19 and a freshman at RSCC; our daughter Emily is 15 and is a freshman at RCHS. Tyler plays basketball at RSCC and is majoring in Business Marketing. Emily plays softball and basketball for RCHS.
My hobbies include spending time with my family and enjoying my children’s sports activities. We like to camp, kayak, boat, hike… basically, any outdoor activities. I enjoy history; therefore, I like to read non-fiction history related books and enjoy visiting historical places. I also enjoy traveling and especially like touring the D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City areas. I have organized and chaperoned numerous school trips to those areas.
