On Friday, December 8, 2017, MES partnered with ORNL and UT Battelle to support the 2017 Hour of Code week. MES wants to say a special thank you to Dana Humphreys and Amy Cohen, who were the computational scientists/engineers that volunteered at our school. They spoke to our 2nd-5th grade students about their profession and how they use computer programming and coding on a daily basis. The students also learned about other careers that use coding. The students then practiced some coding of their own using the website Hour of Code (https://code.org/learn). This is a useful site to practice coding, and the students can access it at home. We are thankful for ORNL and UT Battelle for sending these volunteers to help our students learn more about the computer science field.
