About Me

Hello! My name is Emily Smith and I am so excited to be a part of the First Grade Team at Midway Elementary.

I was born and raised in Kingston where I graduated from Roane County High School. After graduation, I moved to Chattanooga where I lived for nineteen years.  I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Multidisciplinary Education (K-8).  I also hold a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. I am currently in my eighteenth year of teaching.  While in Chattanooga, I taught fourteen years at Lakeside Academy of Math, Science, and Technology, nine of those years were in first grade and five years in second grade.

The summer of 2014 my family and I moved back to Kingston, where I served as the Math Coach at Ridgeview Elementary.  In January of 2015 I moved into a first grade classroom at Midway Elementary.

I am very passionate about education.  I believe my role should not solely focus on reading, writing, and math, but on educating the whole child. Developing each child to the fullest of their abilities; socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

It is my goal to create a safe, nurturing environment in which students thrive academically and socially.

I am so happy to be part of the MES family and I am looking forward to another fantastic year!
